Documenting a LAH refresh. It recently suffered from a non boot situation but is here for a general clean up and refresh. Will find out why the ripper coil is locked on and correct. It will get new cabinet rails as one is a bit worn down. Likely a new power supply and a new ripper plastic. The Williams bats will be ditched for DE ones and get rebuilt.

The pop bumpers will get almost all new parts with clear bodies and Britemods LED’s. A good cleaning with new drop targets, mechanism rebuilds, LED flashers, Titans, and some other things we find bad along the way.

More to come!

Great! What a cool
Title.
If you buildup the scoops prior to cliffy placement please show your process.

Thanks!

We have some protectors that will hide the wear so no scoop buildup. It is pretty minor so I don’t think it’s needed with the protectors.

Cary Hardy helped things escalate. We have a Pinsound board coming with speakers and will be getting the wire forms powder coated yellow.

I’m trying to talk Bob into a ColorDMD to take this all the way.

BTW, who doesn’t like a Desert Eagle 50AE?!

Replaced the shorted transistor on the PPB board for the Ripper kick back.

While waiting on some parts, I’m using the tumbler for other reasons that Arnold would approve of.

Arnold stopped by. He wasn’t quite sure if the Desert Eagle portrayed is accurate to the game. The real one has a safety. Can you tell which one is real?!

As the Whirlwind is wrapping up, I’m starting to get back to LAH. Slater!!!! New drop targets and decals prepped before install.

I had some unrelated hiccups… As my garage used to be mostly my car hobby and side work, that has slowly shifted away. But I still use my lifts and had my own daily on it for its 160k maintenance and snow wheel/tire swap. While wrapping up draining the oil and swapping on the last wheel, I happened to look down and saw a big red puddle forming…

One of hydraulic lines let go but thankfully slowly. Enough left to get the car off the locks and get it down. I pulled it and had a new one made my local place, Clark Industrial Supply. 5 minute wait and will soon be back in business. Luckily it was the shorter of the lines so won’t be so much to swap and bleed. Lift was new in 2005 and one of Bendpak’s last American built lifts so I can’t complain. 18 years and no issues.

The VUK looked like a beaver was knawing on it. New one is ordered.

All mechs less flippers are rebuilt. I still don’t know why some techs thought oil was supposed to be used on a pinball machine.

We’re deciding on what skirts to go with. Clear bodies and Britemods LED’s with the original caps are certain.

Was trying to save the old Williams bats so he has a spare set but they’re shot.

Pop bumpers going orange skirts.

Pop bumper rebuild in progress. The right side was pretty straight forward. The left had a few surprises that weren’t obvious until tearing down. First they needed rebuilt badly. A missing rubber stop and broken screw. A new stop and screw fixed that up.

New flipper bat sleeves are a given.

The broken screw came out pretty easily from the back. But the coil saw some heat at some point so I’m getting a new coil too. Yeah I can force the old sleeve out and a new one in but it shouldn’t be like that. For $20, it gets a new coil.

I knew I was making the right move sending my LAH over to dmacy …. It looked clean and played well especially considering it’s the only LAH I’ve ever played…. but I saw the quality restoration he did on my JP so I had to get LAH in his hands. I am still a little nervous he might not give it back because he said it’s one of his favorites but it definitely needed his TLC. So pumped to get get flippin

Yeah….. so this one is going to take a lot of time… Like a few years if ok???

I miss this one and love the movie. You should be safe though. I just redid my flooring in my basement and would be hard to fit it down there now.

Few more updates. Titan lockdown bar receiver decal is on sale to freshen this area up. Added in with the new Titan rings order for the game.

New CRANE drop targets are in. Adjusted them so they are flush with the playfield when down.

The missing knocker assembly is now present and awaiting some solder time.

lol!

Today we are finally putting it back together. Tweaked a few of the indicator bulbs. Pop bumpers are back together. Ring/rod assemblies were good so they just got polished.

Flippers are rebuilt completely with new bats and Titan rings.

Things are making better sense now. The new plunger for the VUK came and I see why it got chewed on like a squirrel.

The VUK bracket is bent all sorts of ways and wouldn’t left a new plunger up through. I was able to bend it back into place and it’s working pretty good now. Clean, smooth operation.

Geez macy you wearing those magnifying glasses while you’re working on pins? I don’t know how you noticed that but I am glad you did! It pays to have the professional do his thing….. Also heard that you found some old black rubbers in the back of the playfield…. Better sanitize back there really well!

The new rails made by ibis finally came after typical holiday shipping delays with the shipping places this time of year. They look great and will make a nice addition.

With the new rails installed, I’m able to button up the soldering of the pop bumpers, get most plastics on, and fit most of the powder coated wireforms. Leaving the ripper plastic off until power on testing to make sure it’s working again.

I am not sure if your drop target rod has worn holes in the side plates. The plates are the same for both sides. I reversed mine to use the fresh round holes. Drops now reset crisply.

Thank you. I’ll check that.

It’s all done! Play testing ongoing. One issue that cropped up was the right flipper would just intermittently die. Than it would come back. Then die again. This seems like after 5-10 games when it gets some heat.

Took it to 80spit so we could test it in his TFTC, but it uses a different board. He looked over everything and the fuse clips are good and were replaced at some point. Nothing standing out bad. So I took it home. Now the left side is doing the same thing so ordered a new flipper board. This one is cursed lol!

For now it’s mostly done while it waits for the new board. Installed a cool white LED strip in the ball trough. It plays great with the added bonus of a flipper not working at times lol!

Installed fresh felt to playfield sides to protect the mirror blades. The old stuff was coming off and getting tangled up leaving it’s goo all over the blades.

I wish Pinsound had this when I had my LAH. I love this Capn mix the more I play it. We added the back box and cabinet speaker from them too.

Updated the machine with LED flashers. Topper got Comet 8SMD. And cleaned. They were super dusty and dirty.

LED strip light for trough.
