    Hi everyone

I have a rare opportunity to go to Vegas in May 2024, and I am desperate to go to the Pinball Hall of Fame. I have a free day on a Friday, and feel I could spend all day in there. However, looking at all the negative posts here, I am wondering whether I should bother! Is it really as bad as some people are making out? I see more than 300 machines listed, but someone posting 80% are off! That would be really disappointing after travelling all the way from the UK.

Any hints, tips or advice to a first time visitor? Is it a cash only place?

    Thanks

    Bluejonny

Your coming from the UK at the very least you should go take a peek...

Hoping the best for you but you still may see some pins you've never seen before.

PHOF gets a lot of visitors, they're doing something right!

I was at the PHOF last week. Yes, lots of machines were off but found the ones that were on played way better then on my past visits. Heck, they even have a method of reporting issues with games that I had not seen before. I was glad I went and had a great time.

I always go to the PHOF every time I'm in Vegas. The best tip I can give is to just enjoy all the machines that work, instead of getting upset at all the ones that don't.

It's cash-only. There are ATMs and change machines at the door. Try to go when they open, it can get pretty busy in the afternoon.

There are tons of things to do in Las Vegas and PHOF is just one of them. If you are spending money to travel thousands of miles away-you should try and maximize your stay. Google event calendar and look for things that interest you. I recommend a residency music concert. Small crowds-inexpensive seats and really enjoyable experience. The food in Vegas is really good-you could go just for the food. I like to check out cool weird shit and so when I go-I check out antique malls(really cool ones there). Pawn Stars has become a souvenir shop-but sometimes they still have cool stuff to check out-also Toy store across street that is good.

I really enjoy PHOF and realize it is not perfect. Just meeting Tim-is an experience in itself. In terms of hotels-Venetian is my favorite by far.

I’ve never been there but if I do make it to Vegas I will definitely be going to check it out. Don’t leave Vegas with regret… do go check it out and form your own thoughts.

Go to Fremont Street and see what’s left of the old, true Vegas. The mega casinos are a vapid wasteland.

Ignore the negativity and have fun.

The only issue I had at my last visit were the hours of operation. Something wasn’t quite accurate on the web. Perhaps call and confirm before heading over there.

Thanks to Clay for all his hard work!! He’s been whipping that place into shape despite Tim’s best efforts.

It’s worth a visit, but several places have far surpassed them and shown us what a real pinball museum should look like!

Check out Next Level in Oregon or Past Times in Girard, Ohio

No question. I had seen this posted and it was nice to see in person. When I went in December 2022 there was a TON of games with weak flippers and playing sad. This past trip was SO much better. I almost didnt go, glad I did.

    Thanks Clay!

My entire family enjoyed our stop there. There's a lot of stuff you aren't going to find anywhere else. Most of it was playable when we stopped but even the ones that were off were interesting to see for a pinball fanatic. I don't know that I would plan on a full day there but a few hours is well worth it.

Hopefully the wax mold machine is working and you can get a Disney figure.

Freemont Street at night is amazing. Some of the best magic acts you will ever encounter are performed on the street. And the people-watching is very cool.

My in-laws live in Vegas. We go to the PHOH nearly every day on our visits for an hour or two or three. It's a great place, and convenient to the downtown area. Definitely check it out.

Get some Asian food while there. Hit Chinatown if you can. Some great restaurants. I gain a pound a day on our visits there.

It's in the Spring Valley neighborhood (Spring Mountain Rd between the highway and Jones Blvd is the main artery). Not far from the strip.
A lot of great Asian restaurants sprang up in LV when Bay area and LA became too expensive. A lot of great dim sum, Thai, Vietnamese options there.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR THE REPLIES!!!!!!!

Really appreciated. And all your other advice. It is a work event, so not a whole lot of time for other stuff, but we have a free day Friday, so that's where I am heading. I hope to meet Tim as well.

One more question - is it cash, or is it a pay one entry fee with everything on freeplay?

    Thanks everyone!

PHOH is all coins. Most games are $.50 but some of the newer titles (like Bond) are $1
Some of their machines play incredibly well. They had LoTR and TSPP working great when we were there last year. Cirqus Voltaire and Indiana Jones TPA were also playing great.
In my experience, most of the games that aren't functioning are the old machines in the middle/rear of the hangar (I say "hangar" because it really feels like one, huge open space.
FYI: A short walk from PHOH is the famous "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign. If you can believe it, there's usually a long line there to take a picture with it. But, if you want that photo, it's convenient to PHOH.

True, it's the only place in the world you can look at a non working Pinball Circus.
