I've owned several machines over the last couple of years, since getting into this hobby. I've always been a player, just never looked into owning until I bought my 1st one, RFM, in the winter of 2016. The bug got me, and I still have 5 in the house presently. I've cycled through about 20, to get to the 5 I have currently. Maverick has got to be the best all-around one of them all. What a bargain. I got mine for $2K, put a little elbow grease into it and some LED's, and what a surprise! When this game is dialed in, you will NOT be disappointed! There are several different modes, drop targets, 3 flippers, 1 ramp, and even a captive ball! Sooo many drops on this one - and you can play poker, blackjack... What's not to like here? Yeah, the boat breaks up the flow at times, but never when you are in the groove. The way the rules are, and the design implementation of the modes, the paddle part of the boat is bypassed when you are on modes where it is not needed, and it just loops. FAST, I might add! And the build quality is awesome on this machine. It is also a beautiful machine! Mine cleaned up great - I'd say the playfield is near perfect, and the cabinet is nice as well. The only flaws on mine is some scratches on the sides, on the inside, from raising the playfield. A little brown paint, or mirror blades, and it'll be fine. It really doesn't bother me yet. The sounds, callouts, music, and animations are spot on for this title. The music is really catchy, actually, and sound quality is very good. I'm impressed with this deck from Data East. I cannot believe this is not in the top 100. I love system 11 titles, and as much as I love and am on the hunt for a Whirlwind, it doesn't stack up to Maverick. And that goes for many other titles in the top 100. And a monster size DMD on this one, to boot! If you can find one of these in decent shape, you'd be crazy not to buy it, especially for what these are going for. Games that are bringing 4 and 5K, don't provide the fun factor and "1 more game" element that this one does. If you are here looking at ratings as a deciding factor to tempt you over the fence, I'm telling you now, JUMP! This one is SURE to increase in price in the coming years. This is just pure pinball fun, plain and simple. You cannot go wrong on this deck for the money. Mine will not leave the house any time soon, if ever. There is just so much going on, I can't see ever getting bored with it. Ive not been able to complete more than 2 of the modes, let alone even trying to get to a "wizard" mode, if there is one. Not an easy game, but definitely a fun one. Not a drain monster, either. Ive rarely lost balls down the sides. Take the time to play and learn the machine, and you will not be disappointed. Gotta be the best bang-for-the-buck machine out there right now.

Very underrated game! Best buy along with Lethal Weapon for DMD under 2k. Great keeper for a year or so then move on.

So picked one of these up and put a little work into it. Poker game with a lot of targets, some fun modes and a pretty good light show. It is a relatively fast game(besides waiting on Lauren Belle). I like the Dots and sound. The rules tho simple are some early work by Lyman and have some interesting variations. A little code work here could significantly improve this game. I think for a DMD game in this price range you can not go wrong . It is a lot of fun for the money.

This game didn't look attractive when I first approached it, but man did it grow on me. Tons of drop targets. Great animations. You play card games while playing pinball. What more could you ask for. Great game!!!

This is a really fun game, if you want drop targets man this game has them and there is a captive ball behind the top stack I didn't know about until I saw it's worth a lot of points if you can hit it.

Maverick is a lot of bang for the buck. The dots on the large DMD are great, I wish there was more of them. Something for the beginner and still a challenge for a good player. Very good integration with the gambling theme.

I purchased Maverick at the York Pa. Pinball Show in Oct. of 2013. Since I only have room for three machines, the machine that I bought that day had to be deep, unique, & captivating. After being at the show for many hours & testing, trying, & eliminating over thirty games, this one was a winner! The game play is fast, the game rules are deep, & the wizard mode is very difficult to conquer! This machine is very affordable, & will give much pleasure & entertainment as a true players machine. I received my prized HUO Maverick for $1500 ~ a steal of a deal, & a keeper for the distant future. Just pinball at it's finest!

Maverick, I liked the movie and I like the game. Poker and pinball is a great tie in. The objectives of getting poker hands is clear to follow and understand, great mini game modes such as blackjack or hitting pop bumpers for a fist fight in Angels Revenge. It's a little different but it begs to be played over and over again, I can't get enough of it!

I'm a fan of Mad Mel, Ms. Foster and James Garner and the movie, so this machine is perfect for me!I love the card theme and the abundance of drop targets. The paddle wheel is a nice feature as are the 4 skill shots at the start of the game(don't forget the shot at the captive ball under the Lauren Belle). It is a challenging machine that many overlook because of the colour of the cabinet...big deal, it's unique! Others who don't like it have never even figured out the rules or complain about the paddle wheel slowing things when lots of fun games have toys that slow the flow(Ferris Wheels in Cyclone, Hurricane & Comet - Cannons in T2, ACDC, Star Trek etc...) It's also nice that my wife actually enjoys playing Maverick too as it was initially her idea to go look at one. My only issue is that they were lazy with the DMD and could have done way more fun things with it just as more mini games, shoot outs, gunfights etc. They also could have done more with the sound as the voices are often drowned out by the music and there's not enough variation in the callouts.

Maverick is highly underrated! Bought one cheap, did a complete restore, and this game is fun, fast, challenging and quite tough! This has become one of the most played game in our collection. The steamboat does slow the game down quite a bit, but other than that, this game is great!

What a great and very underrated game this is! I just don't understand the hate for this game. It is the perfect implementation of a poker theme in a pinball machine. Hit the correct drop targets to make your hand. Careful though - Hit too many wrong targets and you'll lose the hand! It's a shooters game and does not reward blindly batting the ball all over the place.
So... the paddle wheel that everybody complains about. Well, I just don't see the problem! Sure, it takes a few seconds to lock the ball. But so do other games like The Shadow and Jurassic Park to name a couple. And nobody complains about those!
The dots on this game are also pretty cool and the display in general is just beautiful in all it's massive glory.
Yes it's a Data East (the last Data East I believe) and there is no denying that they do not feel as smooth as the Bally Williams games and are a bit clunky. But it really doesn't matter. It's a very fun game. One of those machines I could play several times a day. Nothing too complicated. Just a bit of casual pinball fun. And sometimes, after playing the newer and much, much deeper games, a nice simple and relaxing game is what you want. And that is when Maverick shines.
Other stuff to mention is:
A proper skill shot! And 3 possible outcomes from it.
Standard 3 ball mutliball but with the chance to make it a 4 ball multiball if you can hit the correct skill shot.
17 drop targets!!!!!
Play Blackjack to relight the kickback which is just an awesome idea.

At first glance this machine looks older than 1994. It is quite a fun to play for a few games, but I would not want to own this game. Music is terrible, cabinet & playfield do not look very nice. DMD is very good. A lot of drop targets. If you have a chance to play this game, you definately should - this game earns it. But for a real coin taker this machine is not the one.

Maverick for a 20 year game has some good game play and can be fun, its not that bad of a game and has a good gambling theme.
On the downside the colour of the cabinet is terrible and when locking a ball on the boat it takes a while to lock.
It is a fun game but one that will get boring very quickly.

Maverick is weak, but the display is great. The game stops too long in the boat, and the theme is not for me.
