Trivia

  • Hot Tip is a game with an unique history. It was Williams' first production solid state pinball machine. It was made in both a solid-state version (4,903 units), and an electromechanical version (1,300 units). Both versions of this game used mechanical chimes for the "sounds", just like all other electromechanical pinballs of the decade did. Williams wasn't sure how the pinball-playing public would take to a "chimes" game with electronic scoring, so they installed a bare-bones score reel unit next to the chimes in the main cabinet. So whenever the game plays a chime sound, you also hear the familliar "click-click" of the score reel unit!
