    Thank's !
But i'm currently back to my eject/plunger problems !
    Seems to be infinite !

I think it's now ok with the eject part.
I've made a big "wall" to prevent the balls to re-enter (bigger than the last one from my pictures).
I've also up the power a lot (on the eject coil in MPF).

Yesterday I've spend lots of time working on my plunger lane.
The main problem comees from the begnning of my project, this plunger lane is clearly way too short !
So I took out the wood lime again, I hope it will be better (need to redone some 3D parts to test).
    To be continued !

Still working, MPF is a crazy time devourer !
Only 3 mission (very simple) so far....

We are playing "a lot" with the pinball now, so I've noticed a lot of thing to adjust !
Still strugling with shooter lane / eject...
Maybe 99% accuracy with the shooter lane now (lot of time filing wood) but maybe 95% on the eject part.
Very annoying when everything is jamming.
I'm currently on my V12 for my eject 3D parts !

Superskillshot "receiver" : easier now to do the shot !
    IMG_3418 (resized).JPGIMG_3418 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3422 (resized).JPGIMG_3422 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3424 (resized).JPGIMG_3424 (resized).JPG

Forgot that raw steel need some treatment (polish, anti-rust, coating)....
    IMG_3432 (resized).JPGIMG_3432 (resized).JPG

My switch support, adjusted now with my wood plank.
It's now nice and smooth (before thaht, the switches were bended, the sensation were weird with the buttons)
    IMG_3436 (resized).JPGIMG_3436 (resized).JPG

Adjusting millimeter by millimeter, re-printing every time it's not perfect (I still don't know to take correct measurements).
This example is the right orbit, from time to time the ball was hitting the metal edge.
    IMG_3437 (resized).JPGIMG_3437 (resized).JPG

    #253 3 months ago

You're making great progress. Lots of adjustments after it's actually flipping. Everything that looked smooth shows itself pretty quickly in actual game play.

    #254 3 months ago

Yes its' "only" adjuting, but it will be long

I've added 8 LED for the apron. Not as effective as real lights on real pinball, but I think they use 12V (the cobra allow only 5V).

    IMG_3444 (resized).JPGIMG_3444 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3447 (resized).JPGIMG_3447 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3457 (resized).JPGIMG_3457 (resized).JPG

My girlfriend working on the "dioramas".
    IMG_3455 (resized).JPGIMG_3455 (resized).JPG

And here is another little video : I've done it again -> you can loose big big points if you hit the "monster" moving on the playfield.
I suppose it's not a good idea on a real pinball machine, but for a homebrew, it's super fun to be "beaten" by the pinball and to loose points.
It's adding some super stressful situation !

    #255 3 months ago

Oh yes the gameplay looks really cool! You made an awesome machine.

    #256 3 months ago

Gameplay is looking really good. You've got some really cool shots going on. We'll done

    #257 3 months ago
    Quoted from leeoneil:

I think they use 12V (the cobra allow only 5V).

The latest board includes 12v now. I have a first run version, and I'm probably going to pick up another for this feature

    Thank's 8bitrobo for the information !
    Maybe for another project !

Lot's of time here on MPF to have a decent display and to, "finally", register our scores !

If you don't know who is "HPL", it means "Howard Philip Lovecraft", the american writer who invented the Cthulhu mythos, the theme of my pinball.
Normally his score is unbeatable !

    #259 88 days ago

Wow. Looking so good. Shots look smooth. And fun idea to lose points.

    #260 87 days ago

Yes, and I continue to be very sadistic with the rules....

I'm trying to correct a big mistake I made in the middle of my playfield.
The ball was stuck regularly between DTargets and targets.
Too much space ! And in front of the player, and a very important shot for gameplay, so.. We were removing the glass avery plays....

I made some parts in TPU to have more thickness.
I hope it will be ok. Actually it is, but I don't know how long it will last !

I've added 3 LED to have one light for each targets now !
Need to hide the wires, but it's actually much better to understand what's happening with these 3 targets !

    IMG_3540 (resized).JPGIMG_3540 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3541 (resized).JPGIMG_3541 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3543 (resized).JPGIMG_3543 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3547 (resized).JPGIMG_3547 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3548 (resized).JPGIMG_3548 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3557 (resized).JPGIMG_3557 (resized).JPG

I've replaced a metal wall by a tpu wall : more lights and nor more scratch on the ball !

    IMG_3556 (resized).JPGIMG_3556 (resized).JPG

    #261 87 days ago

Good recovery on that target issue. We'll done to fix it. The lights will help make that look intentional as well. Nice job

Back to work here, I was a little bit lazy this last weekes (and busy).

I took some time to unmount my little playfield, because I had lot to do under it (and it's a pain to unmount everything on my pin).
    - I've redone a ball guide to prevent fast ball not to touch the contactor (superskill shot). It's actually V11 !
    - I had lots of ball stuck under a double-decker post and his rubber (too high), so I corrected the probelm by adding lower posts.
    - I added some little plastic parts under my bumpers cap to hide all the wires.

    IMG_3588 (resized).JPGIMG_3588 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3589 (resized).JPGIMG_3589 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3590 (resized).JPGIMG_3590 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3591 (resized).JPGIMG_3591 (resized).JPG

The two on the left have the little plastic parts, to see the difference.
    IMG_3592 (resized).JPGIMG_3592 (resized).JPG

I've made this awful big parts to maintain my 3 new led. Not very nice but perfectly functionnal, we can now see clearly what's happening with these leds.
    IMG_3594 (resized).JPGIMG_3594 (resized).JPG

Reinforcement of the cabinet ! We play a lot so I don't want to destroy it now !
    IMG_3586 (resized).JPGIMG_3586 (resized).JPG

My future hinges : took some time to prepare them (laser cut by cabcustom)...
    IMG_3587 (resized).JPGIMG_3587 (resized).JPG

An a lot of time on MPF.
    - all my 6 mini-missions are done !
    - I've added an extraball wich work with multiplayer game, it took me a lot of time.
    - I've added display information on every mission, to now exactly where we are (how much DT needed, how much bumper needed etc...) It's all on screen an can be seens in the carousel, so it's easier now to understand what's left to do !

Actually the game is much more difficult than I thought !
On my best game, I was able to finish 2 minis missions, so there is still 4 left and.... 5 big missions left... I don't know If we will be able to see the wizard mode one day...

edit : and a friend of mine just gave me 26 new callouts in a perfect english style.
It's instruction for the player, such as "go to the bumpers" or "right orbit right now", to help during the game.
It's sounding better and better !

    Bravo

Really coming along nicely. Great upgrades and congrats on all the hard work in your program.

    Hello everyone !
Huge step here, because i'm working on the backbox.
It's functionnal (I can lower it), and it was not easy because i'm still poor when it's coming to DIY...
I added 38 LED to light it, some on them already added to MPF and some missions.

Here is some pictures of my work.

No more wires, at least (little 3d prints to hide everything) !
    IMG_3620 (resized).JPGIMG_3620 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3633 (resized).JPGIMG_3633 (resized).JPG

    Non euclidian backbox...

    IMG_3666 (resized).JPGIMG_3666 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3671 (resized).JPGIMG_3671 (resized).JPG

Yep.. Still poor when i'm taking measures...
    IMG_3674 (resized).JPGIMG_3674 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3676 (resized).JPGIMG_3676 (resized).JPG

This how I block the backbox.
2 pieces welded, and a big screw through it.
    Works perfectly, i'm happy !

This is the ceiling of all the future dioramas
    IMG_3771 (resized).JPGIMG_3771 (resized).JPG

And here is an example of my "random events".
When playing, sometimes the game throw an event. Some of them are nice, some of them are here to destabilize you.
Here is the "stormy night" :

    #266 56 days ago

    Looking really nice

    #267 56 days ago

I think i've done the most cutest and funny error of my wole project.
I received my plastics laser cut, from pcbways...

    Opening the package :
    IMG_3695 (resized).jpgIMG_3695 (resized).jpg

Then 10 seconds to installed it on the pinball !
    Easy !
    IMG_3694 (resized).jpgIMG_3694 (resized).jpg

    I think it's super cute, isn't it ?

    #268 56 days ago

That could be the start of a minipinball hihi

    #269 53 days ago

Go ahead and build that one too, it would an awesome shelf item next to your actual pinball.

    #270 49 days ago

I will first try to finish the first one !

I worked on the backbox again, everything is wired and configured.
When we select a mission, the lights comes out on the little box associated with the mission.

    Again it's not polished, but's it's working !

Here is the result for the first diorama.
It will be nice when we will have the six of them, but it's crazy painting work for my girlfriend, and she's totally discovering this hobby.

    #273 47 days ago

    Hey that is really cool!

    #274 42 days ago

I'm working "too hard" on my project, every day, it's time to make a break.
Saturday I was going to throw everything by the window (but i'm too weak for that.. )

New problems with my playfield, I can't move it easily without braking something.
Big mistakes printing my plastics, I need a V2 of those.
Big mistake with some plastics shapes, because it was made without understanding measurment constraint.

Actually I have 6 plastics, the art from my friend totally awesome, but my work on it is awful.
Need new shapes and some changes.
While playing, the result is ok, but I really need a V2.

    IMG_3841 (resized).JPGIMG_3841 (resized).JPG

I wanted white borders, I ended with this shitty result (only my fault)...
    IMG_3843 (resized).JPGIMG_3843 (resized).JPG

Yes, some of my supports do not have the same height.... Perfect ! :/
    IMG_3845 (resized).JPGIMG_3845 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3847 (resized).JPGIMG_3847 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3850 (resized).JPGIMG_3850 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3853 (resized).JPGIMG_3853 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3857 (resized).JPGIMG_3857 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3859 (resized).JPGIMG_3859 (resized).JPG

Actual result : it's good, but with bad details.
While playing, it's simply astonishing, the artwork is "perfect" for me !
    IMG_3849 (resized).JPGIMG_3849 (resized).JPG

    #275 42 days ago

This is about enjoying what you do, and liking what you are making. Take your time, take a break, then start with a fresh idea. It's a beautiful machine with flaws, Lord knows my first has a ton of flaws, but I enjoy that I did it, and that people enjoy playing it too.
Don't beat yourself up, and just love what you are accomplishing my friend. There are tons of people that have never attempted anything of this sort, and you are doing it!

    1 week later
    #276 35 days ago

I took a one day break.....

Because the "clock is ticking", in less than one week now, it will be the first public appearance of this project.
I'm still very anxious on what's going to happen (will it blow after a few plays ?)

Lot's of work on it, on MPF, on re-printing some 3D parts, correcting mistakes etc....
It won't be finished, but it will be playable.

My "random events" works "perfectly, and then can be "stacked" randomly, it's super fun to play.
Some examples in video here :

    Supports brackets, at least !
    IMG_3865 (resized).JPGIMG_3865 (resized).JPG

Took me 3 times to find the correct way to install them...
    IMG_3867 (resized).JPGIMG_3867 (resized).JPG

Settings the bumpers, not easy with my mess !
    IMG_3868 (resized).JPGIMG_3868 (resized).JPG

New print, now with a protection !
    IMG_3870 (resized).JPGIMG_3870 (resized).JPG

Now much easier to work like that !
    IMG_3871 (resized).JPGIMG_3871 (resized).JPG

Not a lot of space inside, it took me some time to move the cobra.
    IMG_3873 (resized).JPGIMG_3873 (resized).JPG

Small detail to correct a problem with the mini-playfield.
    IMG_3885 (resized).JPGIMG_3885 (resized).JPG

Some "mylar" to protect the ramps exit.
    IMG_3887 (resized).JPGIMG_3887 (resized).JPG

Trying to made a nice backbox
    IMG_3889 (resized).JPGIMG_3889 (resized).JPG

    Ok...
Stop trying for now, made a little mistake with the plastics...
    IMG_3890 (resized).JPGIMG_3890 (resized).JPG

My girlfriend working on another diorama.
    IMG_3894 (resized).JPGIMG_3894 (resized).JPG

Third version of my ramps, and you will laugh : still too short !!!!!! (after 20 hours of printing !)
    IMG_3896 (resized).JPGIMG_3896 (resized).JPG

T-nuts for supports brackets, pure luck.
    IMG_3897 (resized).JPGIMG_3897 (resized).JPG

Nice work on the diorama, still a WIP.
    IMG_3898 (resized).JPGIMG_3898 (resized).JPG

    New "D-ramp"!
Saw a D-ramp on a real pinball machine, made with metal.
I took the idea, the new is on the right.
    IMG_3901 (resized).JPGIMG_3901 (resized).JPG

Every shots on it are smoother !!!!! Super improvment !
I will now prepare some combo shots, shooting this right ramp and then the left one !

First public event for this project : probably the first time we have an homebrew section in France !
3 pinballs were running, and there was a WIP project presented.
The event is one of the biggest in France, with 100 pinballs, and tons of arcade (Crazyflip) !

It was really positive, and I'll try to make other events as soon as posible !
My fears vanished after a few hours of plays.
2 days, non stop plays and no real problem.
195 plays exactly (I think some of the counts were lost during crash)
MPF crash 3 times (need to understand why), 5 ball trap and a welding on a slingshot (I think during the return journey)

I loved how very good players used my pinball, launching and completing mission without problems.
Some of them put their name with only one try, so I think my project is really "playable".
I need now to take some time to digest all the advices we had, and go on for the next step (finish code, add a cobra extender for shaker, motor, knocker, then artwork, playfield improvement... Still a long way to the finish line).

No margin to go out of the room...
    IMG_3906 (resized).JPGIMG_3906 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3918 (resized).JPGIMG_3918 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3963 (resized).JPGIMG_3963 (resized).JPG

This guy, sebastien, is doing to redone all the artwork of a Lord of the Ring (Stern).
The work actually done is already awesome, and he was drawing during the event.
    IMG_3984 (resized).JPGIMG_3984 (resized).JPG

    IMG_3990 (resized).JPGIMG_3990 (resized).JPG

    IMG_4001 (resized).JPGIMG_4001 (resized).JPG

Tournament area, this is serious !
    IMG_4002 (resized).JPGIMG_4002 (resized).JPG

The homebrew area, with a new project build during the event.
    IMG_4088 (resized).JPGIMG_4088 (resized).JPG

    IMG_4093 (resized).JPGIMG_4093 (resized).JPG

Nice "ambiance" with the jurassik park, amazon hunt 2 and indiana jones area.

Congrats on a great show, and successful gameplay. Im so glad it went well for you!

    #279 24 days ago

Congrats, that’s huge!!!! Looks like it was a ton of fun, and there’s nothing like bringing your game to a show to knock out all the gremlins. Way to go!!

    #280 21 days ago

Back to work after a lazy week.

Lot of MPF, lot of adjustments.
    - rules and features, lights, etc...
    - we can see now where to go during the mission select
    - every valid shot have a visual feedback during missions

Trying to print now with PETG (starting to replace the TPU drop-targets).
Seems better, but I don't have a lot of plays on them, so we'll see if it's unbreakable.
The problem is that we have less choice on color than PLA...

    IMG_4132 (resized).JPGIMG_4132 (resized).JPG

    IMG_4160 (resized).JPGIMG_4160 (resized).JPG

Here is a quick view on the first videos.
All the videos comes randomly from a thematic pool, so we won't be bored easily.
I's super long to find and prepare them !

    #281 20 days ago

The PETG was not a correct solution, the DT are already broken, less than 10 plays...
Back to the beginning for this problem (result of a very very bad design, the DT can be hit on the side).

I'll try again TPU with the help of a friend...
Lot's of time wasted on this, that sucks because I have so many other things to do (backbox, shaker, knocker, lock for multi, action button... ) !

    #282 18 days ago

Will standard targets fit your mech? They can be found pretty reasonable on ebay, and pbl, marcos.
I bought a 2 new sets of 5 on ebay for less than $40.

    #283 18 days ago

MrBigg unfortunately there not fitting perfectly.
I didn't make any change on the wood here, so the heads of the target are not aligned with the surface of the playfield (too short).
But I already used real targets and I broke them very quickly.

My error comes from my design : all the DT are way too close from the flippers and we can hit them on the side with the right flippers.
I'll stick with the indestructible TPU and I'll see if I can find a way to eradicate the "non dropping but not very important problem"

May I offer another suggestion then.. use something heated to lay on the tops, and sides like a flat iron to "heat press" them after your done. It may help compress the fibers some, or try soaking them in superglue after you are done printing. The heat press way will allow you to manipulate them just a touch, and flatten the edges a bit to make them stronger. Definitely put a metal post on the sides to not allow a side shot on them, that may help as well.
I know you'll figure it out. Worst case scenario, you have a machine shop make them out of metal?

    #285 14 days ago

I have many ideas, thank's, i'll try to figure it later, thank's for the idea.
Now I'm back with TPU because I figured a way to print it again with my printer.
    img_4117 (resized).jpgimg_4117 (resized).jpg

I've made a huge step this last week.
    - Installed the cobra satellite board (thank's again cobra18t you save my board from burning !)
    - add a 24v power supply
    - add a knocker
    - add a shaker
    - install a homade lockbar action button wich works perfectly !
    - starting to create nice mode to use the action button !

    The new board
    img_4114 (resized).jpgimg_4114 (resized).jpg

    24V power supply
    img_4118 (resized).jpgimg_4118 (resized).jpg

    24V knocker
    img_4116 (resized).jpgimg_4116 (resized).jpg

    24V shaker.
I'm using it every time you hit a valid shot.
Very nice, we have now a visual + sound + shaker validation to understand the shot is ok. Really nice !
And better (much better) than my Stern wich is using the shaker "randomly".

Now trying to install an homemade action button.
    First drill the lockbar.
    img_4113 (resized).jpgimg_4113 (resized).jpg

Then install by force this 3D TPU print.
    img_4121 (resized).jpgimg_4121 (resized).jpg

    Add a spring.
    img_4120 (resized).jpgimg_4120 (resized).jpg

Install by force the button. Can't go back because of the tiny claws.
    img_4119 (resized).jpgimg_4119 (resized).jpg

Under the lockbar, just install a switch... Ok I made 2 holes for nothing... It was hiting the glass, so I moved my switch...
    img_4115 (resized).jpgimg_4115 (resized).jpg

"Final" result. Need to find another color for the center, but it's working perfectly !
Ad we can smash it because it's indestructible !
Easy solution without buying a real lockbar with an action button.
    img_4211 (resized).jpgimg_4211 (resized).jpg

New mission using action button, I think it's not common.
The shots are starting to go red, one by one. If you hit them when then are red, you loose points (it's the bad guys).
But if you "shoot" them using the action button, you transforme them from red to purple, and they are now bonus to collect !
Some of them need multiple shots, so multiple action button (it's random) to be shot.
I'ts very dynamic, need to juggle between flippers and action button, crazy action !
    img_4210 (resized).jpgimg_4210 (resized).jpg

I'm almost done for the functionnalities I wanted at the beginning.
Need to add a post-up for lock, but It will be easy with the new board.
    To be continued !

Looks very nice. Cool use of the action button, it's getting there, you're almost finished I'd say?

    #287 14 days ago

MrBigg "almost" finished, yes, for functionnalities.
After that, need hundred of hours in MPF and art software (video, display, etc...), and lot's of work on aesthetics.
As we can see, there still no real backbox, no art on cabinet, plastics are half done.... etc...
But it will be 100% playable probably this week, for the 2 years in the making !

And the button looks fantasic! So much new stuff, very cool

A little update here, because I had a big problem and it took me hours to correct it.
I had a lot of help from pinside members and the discord channel, so thank's again everyone, it help me a lot !
    MrBigg , Octomodz , ThatOneDude , stefanmader thank's again !

I just added a post-up, and some of my LED were flashing while I was holding the coil.
It appears that I have made a mistake a long time ago, plugin 2 LED strip together.
Here is some drawing to explain what I did.

    My mistake

    The correct way
    CobraPinConnectionDiagram_LED_ok (resized).jpgCobraPinConnectionDiagram_LED_ok (resized).jpg

It was long because the problem appeared with the new satellite board, so I was mostly checking things from this point.
So now I have the post-up, it's awful when you see the assembly, but it's invisible when playing.
I can now hold the ball when doing ball lock for multiball for example, so I can now launch animation on screen, we have some time to see them.
    img_4212 (resized).jpgimg_4212 (resized).jpg

I think I will solder everything going out of the cobra now, because I have minor problems with luster terminals.
Here the beginning with my LED, it was one of my try to find my problem.
    img_4214 (resized).jpgimg_4214 (resized).jpg

The "final" lockbar button ! Indestructible, it very satisfying, you can smash it very hard !

    Quoted from MrBigg:

    you're almost finished I'd say?

That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death may die.

Lots of work on code here !
I'm in the second phase of the gameplay, because now I have an action button!

I've added a very dynamic event (shooting bad guy while flipping) and I'm starting to add rules like a RPG.
I have now an "inventory", where you can add weapons, items, books and clues.
All these things can be used in a certains ways or you can keep them to have a big bonus.

Right now you can use them to confirm few shots during missions.
Keep them for points or use them to advance in the story... We can choose !

Here is a quick view on video about these functionalities:

    New joke here !
I was working on "refreshing" my cable management, and I spotted that I reversed every pin on the cobrapin connectors...
    What a joke !
Better now, it's not finished but it's clearly better (I can see what's going on inside the cabinet ! amazing ! )
I soldered everything, I wanted to get rid of all the strip dominos.

Before two complete days of rewiring :

    During :

    After (but not finished):

    IMG_4240 (resized).JPGIMG_4240 (resized).JPG

I'm trying PETG for my ramps.
Much stronger I can get rid of the little metal sheet at the entrance (and now the entrance is easier)
Difficult to find color that match, but it's funny, the light is going trough it (we can see it on the picture) !

The ramp looks great, (i liks the new color better) and wiring is much better.
Amazing how quickly that can get out of hand if you dont keep up with it.
    Congrats on the progress.
