Another explanation amateur video has never been captured, aliens emit EMI that causes any electronic device within recording range useless. In the movie NOPE they ended up hiring a videographer that used an analog camera.

The dark forest hypothesis was actually created by an author in 2008. Hawkings may have eluded to something like this, but he did not create the hypothesis. It was created by author Liu Cixin in 2008. It is also a fictional creation, it should be noted.
I have read the trilogy, the first book really stayed with me, but as I recall the dark forest theory comes into play in book 2.

Yeah, 3 Body problem books were great.
Netflix poster says only on Netflix, But there is a version that's been on Prime for a while, and another version floating around somewhere else too.

Here's a Kickstarter project that needs a little help. I've been fortunate enough to enjoy the ride from the beginning. It's quality stuff, and most importantly, based on actual released documents and official interviews, etc.
I'm not really a graphic novel type of guy, but I enjoy, and can appreciate, this level of work.
