I hope the 6th gen 4r is what I want, but the more we travel with a pinball, misc other stuff, recovery gear, dog etc....the 4runner is tight.

Quoted from RyanStl:Sequoia is huge. I'm eyeballing the new Land Cruiser or GX. I have to wait for some depreciation though and that might be awhile.

Picked up a 2019 Tiguan SE 4Motion with 34,000 miles on CPO. Pure White with Storm Grey interior. No 3rd row and no Panoramic Sunroof. Installed factory cargo cover and front and rear splash guards. Replaced front speakers with Focal drop in replacements. Music finally sounds good with the new Focal speakers. Rear set on the way. Replaced factory winter mats with Weathertech-style so if anyone in Seattle/Tacoma wants a free set of mats let me know. My new pinball hauler.

I completely forgot about this thread! I've got a 1973 Porsche 914 2.0L that I've posted about before. It's my daily driver and I've driven it on multiple long trips to various Porsche meetups around the country.

Last summer, ripped off the old factory Bosch D-Jet fuel injection that had been giving me problems for years. I installed a custom independent throttle body fuel injection system (with MicroSquirt as the brain). Here are some installation photos. I cleaned up the wiring after confirming that everything was working correcty.

The car drives fantastically now, and it is so much more responsive. The sound of the ITB make me grin everytime I drive it.

One of the first drives testing out the new EFI was a 200 mile round trip to pick up a 1932 Goofy by Bally. Who knew the 914 could haul a pinball machine!

My wife and I took it to Porsche Palooza again this year where we finally one the 914 catagory! Someone took some fun driving photos one morning and sent them to me.

Now that the yellow 914 is sorted, I need to get started on the other 914 and start work on the flat 6 conversion.

Since we're on Toyotas...

My wife just got a Grand Highlander Platinum with the Hybrid Max engine. The driver assistance tech and associated bells and whistles are quite good and that hybrid max engine (362 hp w/ 400 lb ft torque) pulls quite nicely for a large truck.

Quite impressed so far.

The hybrid numbers are very impressive. I am not sure I am sold on the hybrid system yet. I am definitely sold on the reliability and durability of a Toyota gasoline engine. Their engineers have proven the quality and long term reliability is solid over the decades. Having the hybrid adds another level of potential long term maintenance issues as batteries begin to fail(not to mention the cost of replacing them). Someday I will have to make the transition but I may just go all electric by then. I did have the thought of-'I wonder if this will be one of my last fuel driven trucks that I purchase?'

My thoughts exactly which is why my wife and I both upgraded last year to probably our last gas engine rides.
I’m sold on my 4Runners reliability. Her LR, eh, not so much but fingers crossed.

Tempted to get a 24 Tacoma. We have a 22 tacoma and it does what it needs to do, but the throttle response is abysmal. I want to get it tuned to fix that, but my wife drives it more (when she's not driving the other cars) and she doesn't care.
Think I may like to go test drive a 24 taco and see what that turbo kick is like!
thanks for sharing!

Quoted from Brainiac:

I let a couple of co-workers drive it and they were really impressed with the drive. My wife loves it and now prefers it over 4Runner. Other things that really are great-the JBL sound system really pumps, and the heated seats and steering wheel are really nice on a cold morning(although sometimes it makes me feel like I have to pee). My only complaint is a slight vibration in upper hood section and the giant TV screen that I need to get used to. I find it a distraction still while driving and I joked with the wife that she may need to make some curtains for it so I can cover it up.

#3309 33 days ago

A pedal commander will change the throttle response to whatever you prefer. It's not a tune and doesn't change P/E or anything like that it just makes the throttle feel better (in some cases for some people)

I hear you, but it is basically a Prius with the dial set to performance instead of economy. They have 25+ years of experience there so I'm not too worried about it. That said, my wife want something new and exciting in five years so I won't have to deal with a battery replacement.

I know. It’s just so much fun to stomp on. Especially compared to my 4Runner.
We’ll see how we feel as we approach 36K miles.

Digging through the archives and found a couple of my old cars.

1999 Mercedes-Benz SLK 230. I purchased this car as I needed a “short” car as my garage space had a short stall. I went to the Mini Cooper dealer for a test drive and they asked me if I had an appointment as they were brand new at the time. I bought this little SLK with the AMG Sport Package instead.

1994 BMW 850csi The BMW Motorsports version of the 8 series coupe. 5.6 liter V12 with a 6-speed manual transmission. A lot of technology for ‘94. If there was a fault it would fix itself by me shutting it down and restarting. 12 cylinders meant instantaneous torque without waiting. Total production by BMW 1510 vehicles, with only 227 to the USA. Mine was number 33.

Owned both cars for a number of years. The Mercedes was my ride to work at the airport and the BMW was for nice days. My first and confirmed last black car.

It’s not bad. I bought one for my wife and she loves it, being a Toyota it should be good for 200k miles

Do the seats all fold flat for an entirely flat cargo area and can you get 2 pins in it?

The seats do lay flat, I’m not sure about fitting two modern pins in back. Couple of wedgheads should fit fine.

#3318 28 days ago

I can't immediately find the dimensions of that rear area....since you have one maybe you wouldn't mind throwing a tape measure to it with it all flat and see what's what?

Well.... It was a bad day for the 914. I had the heads reworked 4 years ago, and ended up having to replace one of the heads. I replaced it with a brand new head with new valves, seats, guides, and springs.

I was driving home from work today when suddenly there was a loud bang. Immediately I was down a cylinder with lots of extra noise. I hoped that I had just lost a spark plug, but I wasn't so lucky. I either dropped the intake valve seat or the intake valve on cylinder 2. I pulled the air cleaner off and found signs of combustion on the cylinder 2 throttle body, as well as bits of metal on the air cleaner housing. I'm guessing the valve made contact with the piston. Over the next couple of weeks I'll pull the engine and start to disassemble and assess the damage.

Sent the Clubman Estate out for welding and painting this weekend. I am hoping to have it back in a couple of months but no rush.

We had a family outing to the local karting club meet on Sunday and I think I am going to be a few $$$ lighter soon as my eldest is 6!

It was nice to meet ex F1 and 24hrs Le Mans winner Derek Warwick there supporting his grandson, didn't manage to get a photo unfortunately...

Lol. I just went to try to figure out what kind of car this was from. Looked up dash images for C7, CT5-V, CTS-V, Camaro ZL-1. Couldn't figure it out until I finally realized it was a C8. Worst part is that I have a C8. I guess it just didn't look familiar with the track mode display.

Yes it looks great and it shares the new turbo engine platform. The power band from the 4 cylinder turbo is really impressive and I am really enjoying the new platform. Huge upgrade that was definitely needed.
