A Swedish Love Story (1970)

Special thanks to pinballslave who found this movie and the machines.

Jolly Roger
Kings & Queens

Quoted from pinballslave:

Using my new-found skills I can confidently say the A Swedish Love Story, by Roy Anderson, is not already listed and has Jolly Roger and Kings & Queens at about 31 mins into the film in a youth club. Can't find any clips of that scene though.

Yep. Actually suprised you didn't s"NAG" it earlier since you are our "Fugitive Guy".

Quoted from LeChuck:

The Fugitive S3E10 (Landscape with Running Figures: Part 2)
The Chicago Coin Match Bowler from S01E03 shows up again. And there's a Williams Nags pin (1960) with a nice closeup.

I looked back at my earlier posts, and I'll be damn. On post 2786, I actually did post that same Nags..
I watch those old Fugitive reruns time to time. Years back, I remember seeing a 4 Roses on one of
the episodes. I'm sure eventually I'll be seeing that episode again..

One of the amazing benefits of key posts and this thread . Let us know when you see the 4 Roses again .

And that's one of the ones I checked. Are you sure? But you get the benefit of the doubt.

Now name the shooting game. You might have to watch the video. Quite a good episode if I do say so.

Allied Leisure Crack Shot (1972)

Also when I key posted your find I added that it might be S08 E19. I found the episode listed both ways so edited the key post with both episode numbers.

I watched the episode and with fifty two years of television distance/hindsight, as much as I loved the original 5-0 the episode did nothing for increasing a person's comfort or safety for hang gliding in Hawaii . Those thugs were real skeezes.

Well, as of today McGarrett has been kidnapped and brainwashed by Wo Fat. I hope we can get more scenes with vintage pinball machines.

#4814 18 days ago

Was this the serialization of the Hawaii 5-0 tv movie where McGarrett is put in a sensory deprivation isolation tank in water to get brainwashed? I remember a scene somewhere as McGarrett is in the isolation tank and hallucinating he starts swimming while in the rubber suit fantasizing. From when I was a young lad . I wonder if he was fantasizing then of playing pinball with a girl afterwards.

Quoted from o-din:

And as Wo Fat rides off into the sunset after another failed caper, all I can say is they don't make Chinese Junks like they used to.

#4816 17 days ago

They do make Chinese Junks they are called Thunderbirds pinball machines (cue rimshot and snare drum sounds). Thank you, I will be here all night. Try the roast beef, it's delicious. You've been a great audience!

I saw another one on an episode of Mannix called "The Gang's All Here". Shortly into the episode in the gang's hangout.

It was the middle of the night and I was still half asleep and I can't find a free stream of it, don't remember the title, but it was there.

Mannix S07 E08 "The Gang's All Here" (1973)

Thanks, @o-din. It is a Flip-A-Card (1970). Confirmed by sunnRAT and AlexF - thank you sunnrat and AlexF. After I had posted asking for help I did my own scouring of the images on Pinside and found Flip-A-Card and Card Trix just as sunnRAT and AlexF posted to the thread . Squinting my eyes it looks like the backglass reads "Flip-A-Card" more than "Card Trix" as well . And as AlexF says, no previous high score to the right upper part of the backglass.

Quoted from o-din:

You guys are great! That almost looks like Leif Garrett.

I'll keep watching for them even if it is at 2 AM. It's always cool to see these machines in their original eras and habitats. Then I can go back to sleep.

Is it safe yet?

#4827 14 days ago

Ha ha ha ha. No, it isn't safe, Zell. Not to be confused with the money transfer app Zelle.

Quoted from o-din:

Is it safe yet?

Quoted from 6point5degrees:

Watched Marathon Man for the 100th time last night and there's a Gottlieb Polo in action during a scene in Paris.
And, yes, it is safe. You'll only get that if you've seen the movie.

Quoted from schudel5:

In the 1976 movie Marathon Man, starring Dustin Hoffman, about 30 minutes in a guy is playing a pinball machine in a drug store. The first shot is of the playfield showing him playing what is clearly a Bally Bow and Arrow. They then cut up to the backbox which is a Gottlieb Polo. That's really a strange mix of machine and manufacturer to put together in the movie.
[quoted image][quoted image]

Quoted from jk2171:

Just watched 'Marathon Man' yesterday, and there is a close-up of the EM "Polo" in a scene. They actually use the sounds of the game as well in the close-up as a transition between scenes.

Been sitting on this one for about a month. Just DL'd now for screenshots. Pretty sure this makes Paul Newman the king of pinball in movies...

Also sitting on another movie but I only heard the machine in the background pretty much wrecking the scene. I will DL it and see if there is a shot of the machine to post.

That Oh Boy Pepperoni stick for 10 cents looks like a pretty good deal. Same price as a game of pinball.

#4831 13 days ago

In "Out on a limb " (1992), from french film director Francis Veber, at 4'56 you can see a pinball machine that I haven't been able to identify. And at 54'44, a Gottlieb Buccaneer, whose cabinet and backbox have been repainted.

The Comic Strip Presents S01 E04: "Bad News Tour". Fortune (1976) ~20:40 into the episode. Worth tracking down for fans of Spinal Tap, which was filmed around the same time. Same idea.

Sally: Do you always play the pin tables before a gig?
Spider: No, you asked me to cuz you thought it would make a nice shot.

Who's that Knocking at my Door... About 48mins in... Bally Harvest... With Harvest Keitel... I mean Harvey Keitel...

Who's That Knocking At My Door? (1967)

Bally Harvest

Thanks pinballslave . Martin Scorsese's first film. Harvey Keitel's first film, too. A streetwise New Yorker falls in love with a local girl and decides to settle down, but he has trouble dealing with something in her past due to his Catholic upbringing. Understanding it was made 57 years ago, it is a bit slow and some of the repeating shots in some scenes are draggy . Ending was "meh" for me. Must have been pretty hip and scandalous for it's time. Scorsese edited together footage he shot over several years from starting as a student film. Sex scene(s) added to get the film released as an adult exploitation film to get it in distribution. (Apparently I wasn't the only person to think it was kinda "meh" in places ). Was released in the Chicago Film Festival.

Harvey Keitel is J.R. - the man on the far right sipping a beer and smirking in front of the pinball machine.

Personally I really liked the film... this is not why I liked it, but it did add to the pleasure, but about 1/2 way through the film there's a series of sex scenes where Keitel is having sex with several women... lots a nudity... quite risky for its time... Quite stylistic and using experimental techniques that I guess were very new for its time. I recommend it. I didn't have high hopes for it after reading some reviews, which probably helped me enjoy it more

Perhaps we need a new thread with pinball machines that are not in the background.

#4841 4 days ago

That would wipe out 99% of these posts . We don't need another movie/tv pinball thread . I like the idea though of when we catch (rarely if at all) when a pinball machine is either part of the plot or at least integrated into the scene properly with the person or persons playing it and it is right for the time era - that we continue to call it out in our posts . Otherwise, everybody: when you see a pinball machine in a movie, tv show or series and it hasn't been posted in the thread before - please post it here!

Quoted from o-din:

Perhaps we need a new thread with pinball machines that are not in the background.

#4842 4 days ago

Well, that would sure whittle it down.

#4843 3 days ago

Hey, if you see any pinball machine in something that hasn't been posted in this thread, go ahead and post it regardless of whether it is in the background, foreground, being played or used as a prop .

#4844 3 days ago

And be sure it hasn't been posted yet.

Takes a little extra effort, but well worth it.
