    Quoted from aahgo:

Is there a sequencer in the wait/walk sign? Or do you need to fabricate something if you wanted it to alternate?

I have not figured out the wiring to the 2 transformers in the signal. There are also 2 relays involved. I’m assuming the WALK is lit and then switches to a flashing then steady WAIT ?IMG_4039 (resized).jpegIMG_4039 (resized).jpegIMG_4040 (resized).jpegIMG_4040 (resized).jpeg

Is it just me, or does it look like they built all those electronics into the valve cover of a small block Chevy?

The Pepsi is for me, the Corona for my friend Colson. Through thick and thin my pinball brother from another mother has been there the last few terrible months and when he mentioned Corona was his favorite beer.. well it was a chance to thank him. Purchase was a long shot that paid off, I contacted the seller a week ago who had not posted in months on FB market. Today he popped up with a reply and even offered a discount. I was off and running and a hour later both were in hand.

Sharing a link to a thread I just started about LED neon controllers and trying to find one that can do traditional animation of individual strings of lights.

I do have a real Fat Tire neon in the room as well, so I've got some street cred. I would've had 2 real neons; but, my Pacfica has a cracked tube and I haven't got anyone local to respond about fixing it.

    #2109 9 months ago

They got a hotline number for neon anonymous? The Captain is in the house.

Picked this up for $30. Only half was working. Turned out to be a loose electrode on the Red neon tube.

Found myself constantly tapping my phone for the time, or asking Alexa, so I sprung a whole 60 bucks (eBay) for a glass-tube neon clock for the gameroom. Red on the outside, and white neon on the inner ring. Simple, easy to read, and looks pretty cool with all the other neons in there!

Just got this beauty and it's huuuuge! Hung it up in the finished part of the basement and not in the game room. I was going for the "ask for forgiveness" route rather than the "ask for permission". Lucked out because she loves it! Woot!

    That is lovely, Alex!
I can't wait to see it lit up!
    Eric

7 months went by and I finally got around to looking into this thing. She's alive! Just needed a power cord replaced and one side of the transformer reconnected.

The insert is a little hard to read when lit so I may need to find some other options. Fortunately it's just a cardboard sign that slides in from the top.

Finally able to join the club! Very happy with them. Been looking for a Flyers one for a while and the Budweiser bow tie was a bonus.

    743F9993-4CC3-4879-AA39-4E35CAEEE4C3 (resized).jpeg743F9993-4CC3-4879-AA39-4E35CAEEE4C3 (resized).jpeg

Hope you’ll indulge me on a few newbie questions:
What can I clean the frame safely with? Purple Power?
    How about the tubes?
And the plastic/acrylic on the Bud Light?
Both plugs were neutered of their ground. Where’s a good place to get replacement cords?
The bow tie has red paint on the tubes that is flaking off (the black is flaking a bit also). Is it advisable to re-paint, leave it, or strip the flaking off of the red somehow since the neon is an orange-red?
The white around the puck on the Bud Light has a slight flicker to it. Any tips to fix it?

    Thanks!!

I had my pedestrian signal WALK sand WAIT tubes remasked at Neonworks of Cincinnati. They are located in the American Sign Museum and I saw this cool piece hanging in their shop. That place is always a treat to visit. I have not used them for work yet, but the work they do seems really nice. Very cool Walk/Don't walk neon. I have been keeping an eye out for one but always see the newer style.

So I found this clock at the local flea market today. It’s actually neon. Unfortunately thr green outside ring does not glow. It seems the transformer is shot. Well I opened it up to see what I’m working with, and I just don’t know what to replace this with. Normally a neon transformer that’s 110v would do it, but But it has a 12v input for the clock. Could anyone tell me where I could find a replacement transformer for a cheaper clock like this?

It helps if I slow down and read, ha. Odd though, 12V to ???V. I thought neon took very high voltage, low amperage to fire. I suppose that board could be doing that. Strange setup though.

Edit: something like this, I guess. But cha-ching!

It's just a buck booster. A coil in a car does the same thing, turns 12V to 40,000-80,000V.

I'd simply buy a cheap clock or other 12v neon device off Ebay and gut it if you had your heart set on fixing this.

The clock itself looks like a common China "Coke" clock, there is bunches on Ebay.

Check out this neon sign I just picked up. It's a facsimile of a vacuum tube, based on Rolling Rock beer. "33" turns out to be the quality guarantee on every can of beer, which is 33 words long. Sign is about 24 in. tall.

Since spotting this 5 year old post a few years ago I have been keeping an eye out for this unique bit of neon...

I'm praying it arrives in one piece, I'll know Tuesday.

I rarely post about anything before it actually happens but in this case I'll make an exception and hope I'm not jinxing myself.
