Finally replaced the transistor that turns on my knocker solenoid. During the activation a few things happen
1-solenoid is activated and pulls the knocker rod but it stops within the solenoid, does not go through to hit the metal support. Am l missing something here, have it assembled wrong.
2-solenoid stays charged for about 5 seconds before turning off. Is this time frame appropriate for on off?

The bell sleeve is not installed correctly.

The lip of the sleeve should be between the coil and the bracket, not above the bracket.

Additionally, the plunger is installed in the wrong direction.

Also, the coil lugs should be facing out, not to the side.

It shouldn't be staying on for 5 seconds, should be only a quick pulse, but maybe it just seemed as though it was staying 'on' because it was getting stuck.

Yup your right just added the diode across it after checking the schematic. Perfect operation now!
