When soldering, ideally you want a strong mechanical connection independent of the solder. Ie, the wire would want to stay in place before the addition of solder.
In this case you should be feeding the wire through the eyelets on each tab and then folding the braided wire together such that when you tug on it, the wire stays in place. Then, heat the joint with your iron and add solder. 'Wetting' your iron with a small amount of solder can help in heat transfer and make for cleaner joints. I like to hold my iron at around a 45 and then touch the tip and joint at the same time with my solder.
It looks like on top you may have went through an eyelet but didn't add enough solder. Also, it looks like you melted through the wire insulation in a couple of spots on that same wire. It might be a good idea to strip the wire back behind the melted insulation and re-solder.
