Hi guys – looking for help with my WPC-S Theatre of Magic. The volume is maxed and won’t respond to any controls. Yes, I do have the min volume override (setting A1 28) turned on.

During testing, it shows the volume adjustment going from 0 to 31 but the volume never changes and just stays at a maxed level.

Seems like separate problems but could be related. The color DMD display is missing lines and stays in black-and-white, unless I’m in the test mode.

Lastly, the music and callouts are intermittent.

Maybe it’s all related, but I would love any advice on the maxed volume as a starting point.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Your game has a DCS soundboard in it. Volume is controlled via pulse width modulation on the DSP.

Does the game issue any bongs when you boot it?

The ribbon cable going to the sound board is suspect.

I'd buy a new ribbon cable, but at least reseat your ribbon cable (everywhere it goes) and see if that helps.

Sound board repair is very tricky. I repair a lot of my own pinball boards, but when I send a board to a professional, it's usually a sound board.

If ribbon cables don't fix this problem, strongly consider sending your sound board to a professional, like Chris Hibler.
