Noteworthy features

  • Mini playfield - Representing the Paths Of The dead with 4 switches in 2 interchangable lanes. Switch values change between 100, 250 and 500 souls every time this area is accessed.
  • Big ring - The One Ring with a powerful magnet to hold the ball and the 'Mode Start' shot of the game.
  • Sword ramp - Narsil, the sword of the king, beautifully shaped ramp which locks the balls for the 'Two Towers Multiball', this ramp also has a smart sensor which will release the front ball when it registers another coming down.
  • Balrog Toy - A large plastic Balrog that pivots over the centre ramp obscuring the Ring shot during the 'Fellowship Of The Ring Multiball' and 'Bash Balrog' modes. This toy lights up and sits on a pivot switch which causes an animation and a roar when hit squarely.

Trivia

Path Of The Dead plastics have been altered from the initial run from a dark brown with translucent images of the dead to a green hazy plastic with blurred images of the souls. A metal plate has been bent over the sword lock in later models also to stop the ball from jumping off the ramp and early production runs have a Gandalf the Grey figure standing on the right hand side of the ring ramp instead of a Gandalf On Shadowfax. Game Rom Revision 4.0 onward has the setting for 'Cave Troll' Mode, this gives a different animation for the Fellowship multiball and adds an extra sequence of shots before awakening the Balrog. Latest Game and Display ROM revision is 10.0
